Jazmund Walker, a senior journalism major at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been awarded a NABJ Scholarship of $2,500 for the fall semester. Walker, a Carver High School in Birmingham graduate and a student member of BABJ, was also chosen by UAB faculty as the school’s “Journalism Student of the Year.”
Teresa Wells, a Miles College senior communications major, was selected to participate in the National Association of Black Journalists’ Student Broadcast Short Course, held this past spring at North Carolina A&T University. The Short Course is aimed at encouraging more African-American journalism students to pursue television Management as a career. BABJ helped underwrite Wells’ trip to the four-day seminar.
Bryna Reid, a communications student at Florida A&M University, is interning this summer with Alabama Power Co. Reid is the daughter of longtime BABJ member Felyicia Jerald, head of communications for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International.
Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication will host a reception for FAMU alumni, faculty and students July 24 at the Unity ’08 Convention in Chicago.
